FRACAS AT HOSPITAL
ASSAULT CHARGE AGAINST TWO MEN. REMANDED TILL THURSDAY. Arising out of a fracas at the Masterton Hospital late on Saturday night, Harry McLeod Ewen and Innes Rex Ewen, of Masterton, were charged before Messrs J. V. Gordon and L. J. Taylor J’s.P., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning with assaulting John England Fraser. On application of Senior-Sergeant G. A. Doggett the accused were remanded to appear in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Bail was granted at £lO each and a surety of £lO. In making application for bail, Mr R. R. Burridge, who appeared for the defendants, stated that he regretted the necessity for a remand, as the alleged offence occurred at a well-known public institution and the publicity which would be given the case was not desirable.
