INDOOR BASKETBALL

WEEKL¥_GAMES NOTES AND COMMENT. SEVERAL GOOD DISPLAYS. (By “Tie-Up.”) Enthusiasm ran high among the large crowd of spectators at the Indoor Basketball games on Thursday night, especially so in the W.F.C.A. v Vesta game in the men’s division. A good standard of play was in evidence. Vesta gave W.F.C.A. a surprise packet in Elder Lynn. Undoubtedly the Elder was the best ball player on the floor iir.d did more than his share in winning the game. The W.F.C.A. team played well individually, but lacked combination, whereas none of the Vesta players, with the exception of the Elder, were at all prominent, but their combination was superior to that of the W.F.C.A. team. If a larger court were procurable it would be an improvement, both from the players’ and the spectators’ points of view. The Reliance A v B game was not particularly fast, but the A team played their best game to date. This team is made up of new players and is improving rapidly, although their defence is not what it should be. The State Kitchenette team created a surprise by running Bouzaids to such a close score, the decision was in doubt right up to the last whistle. In the Ladies section Garages deserved their win against McKenzie’s, who are leading the B grade section. This game was very fast and was quite up to the standard of the A grade games. Among the younger players of promise is E. Selby, of the State Kitchenette team. He plays a good clean game, although he is inclined to bounce the ball through too much. Players should realise that this move should only be employed occasionally as a good quick pass will gain far more ground. G Colquhoun will mqke a good bay player, although at present he sometimes gets into football habits. C. Reid is another offender in this way. N. Faulknor is a. tower of strength to his team. He plays a good all pound game. . W Pullar, of the Reliance, is one of the outstanding defensive players in the competition. He is very quick off the mark, and can always be lehed upon to make openings for his teamHiateS. It is a great pity that Bouzaid's have lost the services of J. Harrington, who was the best goal-thrower among this season’s new-comers to the game. It it hoped that he will be potting them as well as ever in the near future. W. Wickens, of Vestas, although not as versatile as some of his team-mates, cannot be bustled, and is a very steady player. , , , F 'Bodie is a good fast player, but cannot make use of his improved goalthrowing owing to the fact that he is often backing up his defence when the goal-throwing opportunities come.
