LECTURE BY MR HELY. SUMMARY OF CURRENT EVENTS. A general summary of current events was given by Mr A. E. Hely. tutor-or-ganiser of the W.E.A. in the Municipal buildings last night, in his final lecture. The matter of setting up groups and the election of officers was postponed. Mr Hely expressed the opinion that Italy would come in against the Allies. but would keep well clear of the Balkans, owing to fear of Russian intervention. The speaker considered that Japan was regretting that her hands were full in China, with the present opportunities open to her. Mr Hely stated that the change-over to mass production methods by U.S.A, armament factories was solely from a desire to help the Allies. The change over enabled the Allies to obtain as many planes as required and at a cheaper rate. Mr Hely took the fact that Russia had accepted Sir Stafford Cripps as British Ambassador as a hopeful sign of a possible trade agree, ment.
