AN UNPARALLELED FEAT SOUTH AFRICAN SALUTE. MESSAGE FROM GENERAL SMUTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. June 5. General Smuts has sent the following message to Mr Churchill: “On behalf of the Government and people of the Union, I wish to convey to you ■ our sincerest congratulations on the unparalleled feat of the evacuation of the B.E.F. from Dunkirk in the face of vastly superior forces. The Army, Navy and Air Force share in a performance of which South Africa, with the rest of the Commonwealth, is justly proud. “South Africa salutes her British comrades’ triumph, which we trust and pray will be a presage of final victory.”

MR CHURCHILL’S THANKS REPLY TO NEW ZEALAND PREMIER. WELLINGTON, This Day. The following cablegram has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, from the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Mr Churchill, in response to congratulations on the success of the evacuation of British troops from Belgium: — “My warmest thanks for your message, the terms of which are deeply appreciated by us. It will have a most encouraging effect here, and I am arranging for it to be communicated to the Press immediately.” FRENCH HERO DECORATED PARIS, June 6. General Fagalde, commander of the Kith French Army Corps and one of the heroes of the Dunkirk evacuation, has been created a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour.
