AGAINST TANK WARFARE ADOPTED BY.GENERAL WEYGAND. SERIES OF DEFENSIVE POINTS. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, 8.55 a.m.) PARIS. June 6. General Weygand has adopted new methods to combat the German tank warfare. Tanks advancing through were encountered at successive "support points.” like field fortifications. The first points were armed with antitank guns. On the banks of the numerous canals and streams behind were gun nests at cross-roads and on the high ground. Hidden artillery further behind stopped any tanks succeeding in getting so far.
ROYAL AIR FORCE TOTAL STRENGTH GREATER THAN EVER. AFTER WEEKS OF INTENSE CONFLICT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 5. Naturally, no official figures of the output of the a rcraft industry are available. It can be confidently stated, however, that the total strength of the R.A.F. is greater at the end of these four weeks than it was at the beginning—four weeks in the latter part of which over the Dunkirk beaches it “engaged the main strength of the German air force and inflicted upon them losses of at least four to one,” to use the Prime Minister’s words yesterday. It was reported yesterday that the total number of British aircraft lost in action since May 10, was 302 —less than one-tenth of the total losses attributed to the Allies in German claims.
