President Roosevelt’s private secretary, Mr Stephen Early, said Mr Roosevelt was continuing his “correspondence” witli Signor Mussolini, but declined to discuss its nature. He refused to answer a question whether he believed Mr Roosevelt’s messages had deterred Italy from entering the war.
