GREYTOWN
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the committeee of the District High School was held last night. There were present Messrs Dennes. Trotman, Robinson, Morison, Galyer, Wiggings, Grigg, and Mrs Knell. In the absence of Mr H. G. Carter, Mr Wiggins acted as chairman.
An application by the Old Girls Basketball Club for the use of the school courts subject to headmaster’s approval.
The headmaster was complimented on excellent results of collections in aid of Red Cross funds. It was reported that the visit to the centennial exhibition had been successfully carried out, and much enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Certain necesssary repairs and improvements are to be brought to the notice of the local representatives on the Education Board.
It was reported that fifty swimming certificates had arrived and been distributed among successful candidates. During the term holidays mean thefts of young trees had been perpetrated. Messrs Robinson and Morison were appointed visitors for the month.
Paddy’s Market.
A meeting of the committee of the Paddy's Market which is to be held on Friday, took place in the Council Chambers last evening. The Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) presided.
The treasurer (Mr S. C. Shedden) stated that the amount to date for the Red Cross appeal was over £157. AH the stall holders reported that they had received satisfactory support. The erection of the stalls was left to the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins and Miss I. ■Wiggins were appointed to take charge of the copper trail. Mr Horton stated that no boys under 14 years of age or girls under 16 years of age were to sell tickets for the raffles.
The offer of a loud speaker for Friday for use in the Town Hall was accepted with thanks. The entries for the tug of war are to be received up till 8 p.m. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. Keltic and family, of Wharepoa. who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs Keltie, left for home today. Privates H. Keltie; and A. Kerrison, of Trentham. and Mr E. Mexted, of Pahiatua, were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Keltie over the weekend. Rainfall Record. In May 527 points of rain fell in Greytown compared with 215 points last year. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for May were: Births 2, deaths 4, marriages nil.
