MOTOR REGISTRATIONS

INCREASE ON LAST YEAR. The rush for the issue of new registration plates for motor vehicles and of motor drivers’ licences appears to be over, judging from reports from the Post Office, and local body authorities this morning.

In spite of the war conditions, the number of motor vehicle registrations at the Masterton Post Office for May actually shows an increase of five compared with tne previous May. The total this year is 2540. Cars show a slight decrease (18) but this is more than made up by additional trucks, both light and heavy. Motor drivers’ licences issued by the Masterton Borough Council totalled 1790 this morning, out of about 2200 for the past year. The Masterton County Council issued 1013, out of about 13,000 last year.
