HITLER CLASSIFIED

AN OUTLAWED EPILEPTIC DECLARATIONS BY BRITISH MINISTERS. THE INVINCIBLE FORCES OF FREEDOM. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 30. Addressing the Foreign Press Association, the Minister of Information, Mr A. Duff Cooper, said that during the seven years since Hitler assumed office the conference table was open to him and he had been repeatedly invited to make his claims in the way civilised people had learnt by experience to make claims. “He preferred other methods for getting his way,” said Mr Cooper. “We can assure him now that the seat at the conference table which has so long awaited him awaits him no longer. He will never receive an invitation.” In the countries conquered by Hitler, the Minister continued, a free Press had disappeared and to tell the truth or to hold an independent view had become a crime. There was only the official communique, an echo of its master’s voice, allowed. He expressed the confident belief that the Allies, fighting side by side, would maintain the liberties which Nazism attacked and threatened. “They are forces upon which he may deliver one defeat, two defeats, defeat upon defeat, but which he cannot overcome. Behind them stands something more powerful than all the tanks, parachuters, bombs and bombers this world or any other world could produce. Behind them stands something invincible —the soul of man —and that he cannot conquer because it is immortal and all the powers of darkness shall not prevail against it.” Another speaker was the Minister of Economic Warfare, Dr Hugh Dalton, who said: “We in this -country are mentally prepared for everything except defeat, a word not known in the vocabulary of England at war. My job is to strangle Hitler’s war potentiality. The law today must be made to fit our requirements to win. We are determined as never before in history. Anyone who thinks that this epileptic can defeat the forces of civilisation and humanity is wrong.”
