GREYTOWN

HIGH SCHOOL PUPILS ENJOYABLE TERM PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown District High School pupils held their term party in the Oddfellows’ Hall last night. The hall was filled with pupils and their parents. teachers and friends. Items were given by the pupils as follows: —Irish jig, Misses Mary Carter and Patricia Sugrue; Highland fling. Beryl Hawke and June Burns; mouth organ solos. Claude Field.

Two competitions were won by Miss Harding and Don Ross, and Miss Keddell and Martin Garrity.

The Monte Carlo dance was won by Betty Burch and Martin Garrity. The chairman of the committee (Mr H. G. Carter) complimented the pupils on the splendid entertainment they had arranged. Mr Carter stated that the roll of the District High School this year was a record and there was every indication that the numbers would continue to increase. The results attained at the Greytown school from an examination point of view compared most favourably with other such institutions. One way that young people could help the nation in time of trouble was to devote all their energies to their studies, stated Mr Carter. If pupils wasted their time they were wasting the Government’s money. The war would not last for ever and it was of vital importance that young people should use every endeavour to fit themselves to take their part in the affairs of our country.

Miss Betty Shedden played the extras for the dancing. Mr S. Shedden, headmaster, also thanked the children, the social committee and all who had made the party so enjoyable. .He especially thanked Mrs H. Carter for always doing her part at the piano, accompanied by Alan Carter on the pianoaccordion.

Supper was handed round by the pupils. The singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable gathering to a close.

Hockey Teams. The following will represent the Kia Kaha ladies against Kia Ora at Masterton. The bus will leave the Post Office at 3 p.m.: K. Maloney, C. Farrel, D. McCarty, M. McKenna, P. Cadwallader, P. Sugrue, B. Woodley, I. Svenson, M. Keltie. L. Sugrue, B. Anker. The raffle in aid of the club funds was won by Mr W. Johansen, Carterton. Golf. The third round of the ’ Stableford for the vice-president’s trophy will be played on Saturday. A draw will be made at the club house at 1.15. Visit to School. The chairman of the Greytown School Committee has received advice that members of the Wellington Education Board will visit the Grey town School on Thursday next.

Tenders are invited for the purchase of a freehold property in Greytown.
