INSULT TO HOLLAND
INSTALLATION OF NAZI TASKMASTER MISUSE OF ANCIENT HALL. SYMBOL OF NATIONAL LIBERTIES (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 29. The news of the installation in the ancient Hall of Knights at The Hague of Dr Seyss-Inquart, following his assumption of the authority of the civil government of the Netherlands, has aroused bitter indignation both in the Dutch Cabinet in London and among the Dutch community generally. Remembered as the Austrians’ leading fifth columnist, Dr Seyss-Inquart has been appointed “supreme civil authority” in the Netherlands and Nazi-occu-pied Belgium. The insult of the usurpation is felt to be increased by the Nazi choice of place of the perpetration. The Hall of Knights has been the scene of many expressions of the Netherlands national life and free Parliamentary Government and stands as the supreme symbol of Holland’s liberties. This ceremonial suppression, of Dutch right and liberties concluded with the parrot cry, “Sieg Heil.”
