SERIOUS CHARGE

HAMILTON STREET INCIDENT ACCUSED BEFORE COURT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, May 28. Arrested in Hamilton in connection with a sensational shooting incident in Victoria Street on Saturday night. Christopher Howe Nicholson, aged 43. Hamilton, described as a showman and bookmaker, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today with attempted murder of Harold Thomas Newton, aged 42, showman. The accused was remanded till June 6. An application for bail was refused.

Newton, a married man, received pellet wounds in the chest, but was reported not to be seriously injured. He was reported to have been shot by an assailant who immediately drove off at high speed in a motor-car.
