MINIATURE RIFLES WEEKLY CLUB COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following were the scores in the weekly competition of the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club last night:— P. Burt 93, Mrs M. Wilson 91, S. Buck 98, Miss Chalmers 97, E. McKenzie 96, B. Williams 94, K. McKenzie 95, I. Feast 94, A. Habib 96, M. McKenzie 97. A.’ Hodder 99. J. Buck 96, H. McNamara 98, G. Rhodes 98. TABLE TENNIS MIXED DOUBLES TOURNEY. There was a large attendance at the weekly club night of the Featherston Table Tennis Club. There were some very fast and excellent exhibitions of table tennis in the ladder matches, most of the games being closely contested. A mixed doubles tournament was 1 played and resulted in a win for A. McNamara and Miss G. Saba. PATRIOTIC FUND LOCAL EFFORTS. A number of dances, etc., have been held in the district in aid of the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund. A successful dance’’ was held in Mr Nix’s woolshed last night, when those who braved the rough /weather spent a very enjoyable time. Mr Chas. Buck was M.C. and Mr Boyd supplied the music. Extras were played by Mrs J. E. Willett and Mrs J. Donald. A supper of hot saveloys,, sandwiches and tea was much enjoyed. The bridge party given by Mrs H. R. Bloxam at her residence on Monday afternoon was very well attended; although the weather was rough without it was soon forgotten in the cosiness within.
The winner of the box of chocolates was Mrs Quinn, and the lucky number was held by Mrs J. B. Davis. The sum of £63 was realised.
The rough weather did not deter players from attending the 500 party held in the Red Cross Rooms last night. The card winners were Mrs Baker and Mr Rea. A raffle was won by Mr V/. Smith. At the meeting of the Ladies’ Hockey Club it was decided to vote £lO of the club's funds to the appeal for the Sick, Wounded and Distressed. The annual ball on June 3 will be run in conjunction with this appeal, and two-thirds of the proceeds will be donated to it. The members of the local sub-centre of the Red Cross have placed their services at the disposal of Tauherenikau Camp and have offered to do any darning or mending for the men in camp. Such work will be carried out at the Red Cross Society’s Rooms every Wednesday, commencing at 2.45 p.m., beginning in the first week in June. All helpers are cordially invited to attend and assist.
The joint council of St John Ambulance Brigade and the Red Cross Society make an appeal for clothing for refugees, which may be left at the Red Cross Society’s Rooms.
Personal. Mrs G. Harkness has returned from a holiday spent at Ashburton.
