DETONATOR RAY
DEMONSTRATION IN AMERICA. Described by its inventor as potentially able to blow up enemy ammunition and petrol stores at a distance, a "detonator ray” was demonstrated before a group of American Army officers at Oakland (California) last month. The inventor, Mr Otto H. Hohr has offered the device to the United States Government.
Little heaps of gunpowder exploded mysteriously in mid-air as the officers watched. The powder was poured on to the lids of tins which were set about 20 feet from the instrument, which is said to depend on both sunlight and electric power. At the first attempt the powder did not explode till it was touched with a stick. but after the machine had been running about 20 minutes two other powder heaps exploded when nobody was near them. The army officers are said to have suggested additional tests.
