RED CROSS APPEAL SUCCESSFUL DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) A most successful dance, in aid of the Red Cross funds, and organised by the members pf the local Women’s Institute, was held in the Hall on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, visitors being present from Featherston, Martinborough and the surrounding district.
The euchre prizes were won by MrsHerangi (ladies) and Mr D. Kitney (men). The mystery parcel was won by Mr S. Sutton, while the raffles were won by Messrs Bernson and Atkinson. The former donated his prize towards the fund, his action being loudly cheered.

Mclntosh, while the music, which was much enjoyed, was supplies by Mrs Te Tau’s orchestra (Masterton). The ladies’ committee supplied supper. The takings totalled approximately £23. The committee of the Women’s Institute is grateful to all who gave donations toward the fund.
During an interval in the proceedings, Mr F. Lovegrove, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented Mr W. Higginson with a cheque as a small token of esteem from both Pakeha and Maori. In doing so Mr Lovegrove stated that Mr Higginson, during his term of fourteen years as mail contractor, had proved himself most courteous and obliging and the residents greatly regretted his retirement. Mr Higginson thanked the residents for their kindly action. He expressed the hope that they would extend the same patronage to his successor as they had to him. He had always tried to do his best for both Maori and Pakeha. The local Patriotic Committee will hold another gathering of a similar nature on June 8, when the proceeds are to be given to the Rod Cross fund. GOLF CLUB COMPETITION.
