RED CROSS FUND

APPEAL FOR DONATIONS. STOCK SALE TOMORROW. As the Hon. W. Perry said when broadcasting last night on behalf of the Sick, Wounded and Distressed Fund appeal of the New Zealand Red Cross Society and Order of St. John: “He who gives quickly gives twice.” Mr Perry also said that intending donors should not wait to be asked but should “spring to it!” and send their donations in. Donations in Masterton may be paid in to the office in Page’s Buildings at any 1 time. If an intending donor is unable to call at the office personally, let him ring ’phone 1963, explain the position, and the amount will be collected by a member of the local committee. People are urged by the committee to give now and not to wait until next week.

Further encouraging reports have been received as to the stock sale to take place tomorrow and many who are not in a position to give stock are giving cash equivalents. The school children are also doing their share. A donkey has been donated and children are now busy selling tickets at 3d each to raise funds on this offer. It is hoped that the public will support this and readily buy tickets.

At noon today the local had reached a total of £1594 10s Id.

The approixmate result of the stock drive is as follows: —600 sheep, 70 cattle, 2 pigs, 200 posts, 10 strainers, 2 bags of wheat, one bag of pumpkins, and one cord of maire delivered in Masterton free. A street appeal on behalf of the Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance campaign for the sick and wounded fund is to be made in Masterton tomorrow.
