DISPATCH OF SHIPS
OVERTIME ON WATERFRONT LYTTELTON AND WELLINGTON. MEN TO GET 5s 4d AN HOUR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Owing to the urgent necessity for dispatching two overseas vessels now at Lyttelton to the United Kingdom, the watersiders at Lyttelton have consented to work overtime after the usual hours. This decision follows on requests made by the representatives of shipping companies through the Waterside Control Commission and the National Waterside Workers’ Federation. In the case of one ship, overtime work was done on Thursday night until 11 p.m., and last night two vessels wore worked until 11 o’clock. In an effort to despatch one of the vessels late tonight, overtime will be continued until 11 o’clock tonight, but it was reported this morning that if the loading could not be completed by that time, work would be resumed tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock. The other vessel will leave this afternoon for 'Wellington and work will be continued on her there at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. Overtime will bo paid at the award rate of 5s 4d an hour.
