ARREST OF FASCISTS
QUIET ACTION IN BRITAIN 1 SEARCH OF PREMISES. QUANTITIES OF DOCUMENTS SEIZED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, May 24. Plain clothes police arrested Sir Osward Mosley and 34 other Fascists yesterday shortly after 50 officers from a special branch of Scotland Yard made a lightning raid on the headquarters of the British Union of Fascists, Westminster. The officers mingled with passersby in the streets, surrounding the Fascists nerve centre; then at a given signal they converged. Guards took up posts at the entrances of the building, while the remainder swarmed up the offices above the street level. All rooms were entered simultaneously, to prevent communication between occupants. People buying Fascist literature were questioned and asked to produce their identity cards. Within 30 minutes a fleet of taxicabs was conveying a, number of men and women under escort to Cannon Street Police Station. Then the remainder of the police began a systematic search of the buildings. Sir Oswald Mosley’s country home and town house were searched in addition to the Dolphin Square flat where he was arrested. Quantities of documents were removed in a van from the headquarters of the British Union of Fascists and a house which had been occupied by Sir Oswald Mosley.
