R.A.F. FIGHTERS
MANY SUCCESSFUL ATTACKS HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED ON ENEMY. SOME BRITISH MACHINES MISSING. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) LONDON, May 24. It is officially stated that R.A.F. fighters shot down over 20 planes yesterday and seriously damaged at least 25 Messerschmitts. Eight of our planes have not returned. Four others made forced landings.
The Air Ministry states that 11 fighters, patrolling the French coast this afternoon, encountered a much larger force of enemy planes and shot down 11 Messerschmitts and seriously damaged three others. The British did not lose any planes. BASES & CONVOYS RAIDED BY BRITISH BOMBERS. WIDESPREAD AND HEAVY DAMAGE. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) RUGBY, May 24. Bomber aircraft of the R.A.F. striking’ force carried out further widespread raids on Thursday night Yind early today. The bombers concentrated on targets in the Ardennes area, along the line of the Meuse, in order to further dislocate and delay the enemy supply and reserve columns. Despite poor visibility, much damage was done to road and rail junctions, and among other targets an enemy revictualling yard was hotly attacked with bombs' Flying east over Luxemburg into Germany, bombers attacked river and rail communications and an enemy aerodrome was attacked and hangers were bombed, as was also a German convoy.
