PATRIOTIC APPEAL
WOMENS’ INSTITUTES’ EFFORT. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. There was a record attendance at the Patriotic dance held in the Masonic Hall last night by the combined Women’s Institutes. The gathering was an outstanding success, taxing the capacity of the hall. As a result of the dance the Masterton district Patriotic Fund will benefit considerably. The proceedings commenced with the singing of “God Defend New Zealand.” Mr A. Keir, Senr, was an efficient M.C., the music being supplied by Mrs Te Tau's Melody Makers. A dinner was raffled during the evening, receiving generous support. Miss F. Cohen held the winning ticket, No 1-25. Supper arrangements were in the hands of a ladies’ committee comprising delegates from all the Institutes. Mrs H. G. Dagg was the secretary. It is the intention of the committee to hold another dance in the near future. The following Institutes organised the dance: Mt Bruce, Mauriceville, Opaki, Kopuaranga. Tinui, Upper Plain, Kaituna-Fernridge, SolwayManaia and Te Ore Ore.
