FOR HELP IN NORWAY PROCLAMATION BY KING HAAKON. SOME DETAILS OF RECENT OPERATIONS. 1 By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 23. King Haakon has issued a proclaina- 5 tion thanking the British Commonwealth, the French and the Poles for their help. A Norwegian communique states that the Norwegians have abandoned Mo and advanced south and south-east to Seltdal. The Norwegians are advancing in the Narvik area. The Germans are reinforcing Narvik by parachute troops and strengthening the defences. The R.A.F. is actively engaging German planes, which heavily bombed the Allies’ headquarters.
BRITISH SUCCESS AGAINST NUMEROUS ENEMY FORCE. SUCCESSFUL GUERILLA TACTICS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 12.10 p.m.) RUGBY, May 23. A British force operating in the Mosjeon area, in Norway, recently engaged greatly superior enemy forces, killed 70 Germans and withdrew with the loss of only one man killed. Military observers consider that these operations, which took place in exceedingly difficult terrain, provide an outstanding example of successful guerilla tactics.
