GENERAL IRONSIDE
SPEAKS SIXTEEN LANGUAGES, Few of the new soldier scholars are likely to attain the linguistic proficiency of General Sir Edmund Ironside, chief of the Imperial General Stall, who is ■■aid by French officers to speak their language perfectly, with the pure accent of a peasant from one of the central provinces. Sir Edmund has the gift of tongues. Not long ago some colleagues conspired to test his linguistic abilities. They arranged a meeting witli an Africaansspeaking South African officer. Sir Edmund passed the test with Hying colours. “He spoke just like a native.” said the Dominion soldier.
