STABBED IN THE BACK
FATE OF THE DUTCH ARMY
FRONTIERS WELL DEFENDED.
PARACHUTERS & TRAITORS TURN SCALE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.43 a.m.) LONDON, May 20. The Dutch Foreign Minister, Dr E. N. van Kieffens, declared that the Dutch killed more Germans than the Germans killed Dutch, He said: “Our army was prepared for the German advance on the frontier. We barricaded the frontier roads and dynamited bridges. It was the stab in the back by parachuters and Fifth Columnists, that defeated us.” Dr van Kleffens warned the British not to exaggerate the danger from parachuters. “They are a menace,” he said, “but don’t imagine that they cannot be combated effectively.” Dr van Kleffens revealed that the Germans plotted to seize the Dutch Defence Minister, Lt.-Col. A. Q. H. Dijxhoorn, in bed on the night of the invasion, but the Minister was not in bed, he was at the War Office.
