Flight Lieutenant J. M. Buckeridge, Acting Controller of Civil Aviation, left Wellington on Sunday for Auckland to board the flying-boat for Sydney today. Yesterday's guests at the Hotel Midland (Masterton) were Messrs L. S. Lipscombs, J. W. Morrison, W. Percival, H. Bryan, Taylor, W. Kennedy and R. Wade (Wellington). Colonel F. T. Bowerbank, DirectorGeneral of Medical Services, Mr P. A. Smithells, and the Rev G. M. McKenzie have been elected to the Dominion executive of the Boy Scouts’ Association.
General Marie Louis Adolphe Guillaumat, who was the commander-in-chief of the Allied Army of occupation in the Rhineland after the last war, is dead, at the age of 77 years, a Paris cablegram reports. Air Marshall Sir Robert Clark Hall, who has received an Ail - Force appointment, has relinquished his position as Dominion Headquarters Commissioner for Rover Scouts, and his place will be taken by Mr W. Dennis Johns, Auckland. Mr Percy George M.cCormack, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Thos. McCormack, of- Masterton, who has been a resident of Auckland for some years, has entered the Papakura Camp with the Third Echelon. Mr P. G. McCormack formerly resided in Masterton.
Mr John Darral Ackerman, son of Mr and Mrs J. Ackerman, 8 Totara Street, Lansdowne, who was on the staff of the Land and Income Tax Department, Wellington, has gone into camp at Trentham with the members of the Wellington draft of the Third Echelon. Official advice has been received in Wellington that Flying-Officer John Roland Brown was killed in an aircraft accident on May 12. Flying-Offi-cer Brown, who was serving with the Royal Air Force, was a son of Squad-ron-Leader J. T. Brown, who is on interchange in New Zealand.
There were two nominations for the chairmanship of the Wanganui Harbour Board at yesterday’s annual meeting, those of the present chairman, Mr N. G. Armstrong, and Mr J. Robertson. On a vote Mr Armstrong was re-elected for the third consecutive year. Mr R. Farley was elected deputy-chairman.
One of the most notable figures associated with the New Zealand thermal region, Mr Alfred Warbrick, for 46 years chief Government guide at Rotorua, has died at the age of 80. says a Press Association message from Auckland. Deceased was formerly a well known footballer and was associated with Joe Warbrick's famous Maori team.
The death occurred in Christchurch on Saturday of Mr F. C. Raphael, ‘•Tim” to many hundreds of cricket friends in New Zealand, Australia, and England, states a Press Association message from Christchurch. The late Mr Raphael, who was 72 years of age. was secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council for 15 years and was a life member of the Canterbury Cricket Association.
