WOMEN’S DIVISION
WAIRARAPA PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL . MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Council of the Women's Division was held in the Res. Rooms yesterday, the president, Mrs E. H. Dagg being in the chair. Members present were: Mesdames C. C. Jackson, K. Groves, C. L. Gawith, M. Rue, C. R. Holmes and T. R. Barre) 1 (Masterton); Mrs McAnulty and Miss Anderson (Eketahuna); Mesdames Wai lace and M. Hay (Tiraumea); Mrs W F. Day (Pahiatua); Mrs E. Gibson (Ballance); Mrs J. Andrew (Tinui); Mesdames D. James and F. Wrigley (Rangitumau); Mesdames M. Hodder. E. Allen, E. Standen and D. Cooper (Carterton); Mrs M. Beu (Greytown) Mrs J. McGarry (Martinborough). Mesdames A. Clark. E. M. Wakely anc L. E. Feast (Featherston).
After the singing of the National Anthem and the reciting of the Division'; creed, members stood in silence as r mark of respect to the late Prime Minister, Mr Savage. The annual report was adopted. Reference was made to the good work being carried out by members foi the Red Cross Society. An extended discussion took place on the serious position resulting from the shortage of domestic help. The division had only one housekeeper available, as other were now receiving Government benefits. which prevented them from accepting work unless the wages received were deducted from the benefits received. Instances were given in which the sick and infirm were unable to get household assistance. Representations had been made to the Government to do something to relieve the position but so far no reply had been forthcoming.
Officers were elected as follow: President, Mrs K. Groves: vice-president-Mesdames A. Clark. C. L. Gawith. M. Beu. J. Andrew and Miss Anderson, committee. Mesdames D. James, C. C. Jackson E. Allen and C. L. Gawitlr advisory members, Mesdames M. Beu and C. C. Jackson; delegates to Dominion Conference Mesdames E. H. Dagg E. Allen. Grant and A. Clark; recording secretary. Mrs Maitland: housekeeping secretary. Mrs Standee; general reporter. Mrs M. Rue.
Votes of thanks were passed to Mr L. H. Smart (Carterton) for auditing the books, to the retiring president. Mrs Dagg. to the office bearers and to the Press.
