SITTING AT CARTERTON CIVILIAN AND POLICE CASES. BREACHES OF LICENSING ACT. The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate's Court was held yesterday afternoon before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. Civil List. Judgment was given for plaintiff' by default as follows: —Carterton Distric' Co-operative Society. Ltd (in liquidation) v J. AV. Farmer, claim £2 19s lOd and same v R. P. Green. £3 7s lid; C Deller v P. Flood. £2 18s 6d; C. Dellev v A. G. Peterson. £1 19s: C. Deller x R. Green. £4 8s 9d: C. Deller v J Robinson. £2 13s 4d. Breaches of Licensing Act. The police proceeded against F. C Yule, licensee of the Taratahi Hotel for having allowed the sale of liquo: after hours. Mr McKenzie appeared for accused and entered a plea of guilty He was fined £5. with costs 10s. Wm. Owen, barman at the Taratah' Hotel, was charged with having sup plied liquor to persons after hours anc was fined £2, with costs 10s. Arising out of these cases S. Tatton V. Inder and J. Milne were each fined £l, with costs 10s. for having been or licensed premises after hours. Liquor Near Dance Hall. AV. R. Sage and L. G. Wilson were each fined for having had liquor ii their possession in the vicinity of <: dance hall, on the night of April 29 Sage was fined £2 with costs 10s, anc Wilson was fined £1 with 10s costs. Theft Admitted. Ambrose J. A. Lipinski pleaded guilty to the theft of plates, scales, curtains and other goods, the property o' N. G. Rayner. Accused was convictec and fined £2, in default 14 days' imprisonment in the Wellington gaol. He was given one month in which to paj the fine. Excessive Speed. H. L. Taplin was charged with having driven a motor car at an excessive speed, without exercising due care anc attention, the result being that the cat came to grief at the turn of the main highway near the Taratahi Hotel. Accused was fined £3 and costs 15s. Foi having failed to carry a warrant of fitness he was fined 5s with 10s costs. Traffic Officer Nicholson charged Wilfred Ernest Jones with having exceeded the speed limit of 30 miles pel hour in the Carterton Borough. Accused was fined £2. with costs 10s. Jones was also fined 10s, with costs 10s, for having failed to carry a warrant of fitness. N. P. Milne, Traffic Inspector, proceeded against Leslie N. Donald for speeding in the Carterton Borough and a fine of £2, with costs 14s, was imposed. Traffic Inspector Milne charged Walter J. Lankey with having used his lorry for the transport of goods, between Dannevirke and Wellington contrary to Clause 1 of part 2 of the applied provisions of the Goods Transport Order, 1936. He was fined £1 with costs 10s. Social Security Case. The Registrar of Social Security, J. L. L. AVood. brought a case against H C. Webster that within a space of foui years he had failed to pay his instalments under the Social Security Act 1938. Section 116. On a charge that he had not paid his levy from May 1 tc November 1, 1939, he was fined £l, with costs 10s. and for having defaulted from November 1, 1937 to November 1 1939, he was fined £l, with 10s costs. Prohibition orders were granted by the Magistrate against two resident: on their own application.
