GOLF MATCH TEAM TO PLAY FEATHERSTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following players will represent Carterton against Featherston on Saturday:— A team to play at Carterton: H. Dudson, R. Fisher, J. Steel. D. Taylor, C. K. Goodin, T. T. Hughes, R. Harrington, B. Whitburn. . B team to play at Featherston: C. Clark, G. Riggs, G. Hart, R. Roydhouse, L. H. Smart, Dr. W. J. C. Wells; P. Shankland, H. Colson. The remaining members will play the first of the four medal rounds, the draw being as under:—-No. 3 lee: Lawrence v. Dwane; Booth 'v. Gustofson; Candy v. S. Hill; B. Beaven v. F. Miss Armstrong and Miss McFarlane; Mrs Candy and Miss Beaven v. Mrs Robinson and Miss Freer; .Mrs Moroney and Miss Shankland v. Mrs Forbes and Miss P. Renall; Mrs Ross and Mrs Pointon v. Miss Lamb and Miss I. Corlet; Miss Smart and Miss Lawrence v. Mrs R. N. Campbell and Miss J. Booth; Mrs Murray and Miss V. Corlet v. Miss N. Renall and Miss H. Hamer; Mrs Harrington and Miss Lane v. Mrs Dwane and Miss Peters; Miss M. Campbell v. Miss Anderson. Members who are unable to play are asked to notify their part?iers. Misses I. and V. Corlet will be ih charge of afternoon tea. PLUNKET SOCIETY CARTERTON BRANCH MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch .of the Plunket Society there were present Mesdames Wells, Candy, Armstrong, Robinson and Trapp. Before commencing the meeting members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with Mrs R. G. Vile, presi- ; dent of the Greytown sub-branch, in 'her bereavement. The nurse's report for April was as follows: New cases, mothers 7, babies 7, breast-fed 6; visits to homes, new cases 18. old cases 40, older children 14; visits to rooms, adults 88, babies 86. older children 10; test scales lent six times; telephone calls 17. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on June 11. ' Accounts amounting to £2l Is lid were passed for payment. BUILDING SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held last night. There was a good attend-, ance of members over whom Mr L. H. Smart presided. The election of directors resulted as follow: Messrs L. H. Smart, F. C. Bunny, L. J. Fairbrother, M. N. Hardie, G. Hughan, W. Jamieson, J. A. B. Lawrence, J. Steel, N. C. C. Shepherd. Mr L. H. Smart was subsequently re-elected chairman of directors for the ensuing 12 months. In connection with a sale of £6OO in the No 2 group, the Carterton Bowling Club’s tender for £3OO was accepted and ’the remaining £3OO went to Mrs H. Knutson who was entitled to it from a previous ballot. It was decided to dispose of an appropriation of £6OO by sale in a month.
Messrs J. M. G. McKenzie and G. W. Sellar were re-elected auditors. The following annual report was submitted and adopted:—The No 2 group has now completed its 14th year and satisfactory progress has been made The balance in the profit and loss account has been increased to £11,005 Is sd. During the year £8,400 was appropriated, £3.150 by sale and £5.250 by ballot.
HOCKEY TEAMS FOR SATURDAY. Dalefield senior team to play Wesley at Carterton: —M. Knutson, G. Tildersley, L. Sayer, R.. A., and K. Ordish. G. Townsend, T. Hooper, B. Nielsen, K. Bain, Spiers. Dalefield juniors to play Old Boys at Carterton:—N. Nielsen. K. Parker. F. Walsh, C. Bird, R. Knowles, L. Fitzgerald, K. Jamieson, R. Sayer, A. Udy, B. Phelps, R. Atkins. Personal. At a gathering of the staff of the Regent Theatre Mr Rex Walker, who has been the operator at the theatre for a number of years, was presented with a toilet companion. Mr R. T. Forbes, in making the presentation, referred to Mr Walker as a very capable picture operator and the company were sorry to loose his services. He had enlisted for service overseas. Mr Forbes and his staff wished Mr Walker a safe return to Carterton after the war. Mr Walker suitably returned his thanks for the gift. At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society, the chairman referred to the death of Mr Chas. Reid during the year. Mr Reid had been a valued member of the directorate he said. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mr Reid.
