RUGBY FOOTBALL TRANSFER OF PLAYERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Among the transfers granted by the Wairarapa Rugby Union are the following:—C. Welch, Mastertan, to Martinborough; K. M. Braggins, Carterton, to Masterton; E. Hurndell, Carterton to Gladstone; E. M. Holmes, Carterton to Martinborough; L. Morgan and C. Morgan, Opaki to Featherston; R. Conwell, P. Thomas, A. Thomas, R. Malcolm, W, Nimott, Dalefield to Carterton; S. Reiri, Masterton to Gladstone. No further transfers are to be granted after May 25. FAREWELL SOCIAL GATHERING AT CL ARE VILLE. Despite the boisterous weather conditions that prevailed last evening the Clareville Social Hall was packed by residents of the Clareville and adjoining districts, gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs W. H. Abbott, who will shortly leave the district to reside at Feilding. Cards were played in the early part of the evening. The prizes being as follows: —Ladies: Mrs Patterson, 1; Mrs F. Morgan, 2. Men: Mr Hollis, 1; Mr B. Hodder, 2. After the card tournament, supper provided by the ladies was handed round. Mr Keith H. Reid referred to the excellent service which Mr and Mrs W. Abbott had rendered the district in various capacities. On behalf of the residents he asked Mr and Mrs Abbott to accept an electric iron and a bedroom reading lamp. Mr Abbott suitably returned thanks for the gifts. Dancing was indulged in until after midnight to excellent music played by Mr Edwards. Extras were played fay Mrs Patterson, Miss Lola Hopkins and Mr C. K. Goodin. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr J. Burt and Miss Lola Hopkins. The singing of “4jild Lang Syne” brought a pleasant gathering to a close. Personal Items. Gunner V. Robinson, of Fort Dorset, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday and stayed overnight with his grandparents, Mr and Mrs C. J. DeLacey. Messrs Brian and Dick Quin are the guests of Mr and Mrs Carl Larsen, Dunedin. Carrington Rainfall. The rainfall at Carrington from January to. April was 14.51 points. The rainfall for April was 4.02 inches. It rained on 17 days with the highest fall, 90 points, on April 26. Druids’ Ball. There was a large attendance last night at the combined committee meeting held in connection with the Druids’ Ball. It was reported that there had been a good response to the request for contributions. An orchestra and an amplifier will supply the music for the dancing. Final arrangements will be made at a meeting on May 20.
