EMPIRE COUNCIL
PROPOSED BY NATIONAL PAPER MEMBER FROM EACH DOMINION CABINET. WITH MR EDEN PRESIDING. B,v Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.6 p.m.) DURBAN, May 10. The Natal “Mercury” urges the formation of an Empire cabinet committee in London, comprising a member from each Dominion Cabinet, under the presidency of Mr Anthony Eden. The committee would deal with broad issues of Empire policy, its recommendations being passed on to the War Council through Mr Eden and the British War Cabinet. The newspaper says: “Such a committee would afford the people of the Dominions satisfaction of knowing that their views were being voiced in the proper quarters and dispel fears existing in the Dominions that their fate was entirely in the hands of Whitehall.”
