GREYTOWN
OBITUARY MRS ANNA NICHOLS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The deatn occurred at Greytown yesterday of Mrs Anna Nichols at the age of 78 years.' The late Mrs Nichols bad resided in Greytown for fifty j ears. She is survived by five sons — Messrs Arthur, Frederick and Sidney Nichols (Greytown), Percy (Carterton) and William (Masterton), and two daughters (Mrs Risk, Tirnaru, and Mrs H J. Farley, Greytown). The late Mrs Nichols had been failing in health for some time. * Successful Dance. The Kiatora Club’s dance was an outstanding success, and if these attendances become larger the committee will have to consider holding them in a bigger hall. The music was supplied by Te Tau’s orchestra, Mr Longsworth, and the Drysdale family orchestra. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr G. Brunton and Miss M. Skeet. Mr G. Robinson acted as M.C. The ' proceeds from these dances are given to Patriotic Funds. Red Cross Society. A meeting will be held this evening to raise funds for the’ Red Cross Society. The Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) will preside, and all those willing to help are invited to attend. Trimming of Trees. There were mixed feelings and divided opinion amongst a group of spectators assembled in front of St. Luke’s Church this week when workmen were taking the top off a stately elm tree. Greytown’s beauty is said to be in its trees, but unfortunately some of these giants reach the stage when they are dangerous to the public.
