Further landings have been made in Norway and contact has been established at all points with the Germans at Narvik, who are falling back gradually. Appalling weather and frequent snowstorms continue to slow down operations. DEAD HAND THUNDERSTROKE IN NORWAY PREVENTED. DECLARATION BY COMMANDER BOWERS. (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, May 9. Importance is attached to Commander R. T. Bower’s speech in the House of Commons’ debate, because Commander Bower was serving as a member of the Naval Staff. Commander Bower said: “When the Germans failed at Narvik it was time for a thunderstroke, which might have retrieved the whole situation and turned the tables. Our ships where ready to take action, but a dead hand from above descended and stopped them. Wild horses would not drag from me whose hand it was. All I say it that it came from above. SMALL GERMAN FORCE ENGAGED BY NORWEGIAN PATROLS. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, May 9. A Norwegian communique states that a small German detachment, advancing slowly northwards, was engaged by Norwegian patrols.
