CENTRAL SCHOOL
REMODELLING OF BUILDiNG URGENT. REQUEST BY COMMITTEE. A decision to again write to the Wellington Education Board urging that the remodelling of the Masterton Cen-. tral School should be proceeded Avith, as the Avork had been approved long ago, and it Avas considered that the improvements Avere urgently necessary in the interests of the health of the children. Avas made at last night’s meeting of the Central School Committee. The chairman. Mr J. E. MeV. Cahvell presided. and there Avere also present Messrs A. Newman. C. J. Braggins. A. V. Dixon. H. J. Gibb. W. L. Butler and P. H. ShaAv. Apologies for absence Avere received from Messrs W. R. Nicol and Cole, and from the headmaster, Mr E. G. Coddington. The headmaster's report indicated that satisfactory progress Avas being made at the school. The roll number Avas 509, the average attendance 488 and the percentage of attendance 95.8. Various requirements in the headmaster's report Avere attended to, Mr Braggins being deputed to see to repairs to AvindoAvs and Mr Butler to inspect the caretaker’s house, and if necessary. to intervieAA' the Trust Lands Trust in regard to any repairs. The secretary Avas asked to Avrite to the Minister of Education in regard to the provision of flags for the school, and to point out that they AA’ere regarded as essential, so that the children could take part properly in national demonstrations. Previous application had been made to the Wellington Education Board. which had said flags Avere not procurable from the board. Messrs Cahvell, Braggins and ShaAAf Avere appointed visiting members for the ensuing month by rotation.
