CLOSING STAGES

VOTE OF NO=CONFIDENCE MOTION MAJORITY FOR GOVERNMENT EXPECTED. RESULT AWAITED WITH GREAT INTEREST. A Daventry broadcast this morning stated that the debate in the House of Commons was reaching its concluding stages. After Mr Winston Churchill, who had just commenced to speak had finished, a vote would be taken on the adjournment. The Labour Party would oppose the adjournment and the vote would be taken as one of no-confidence in the Government. Mr Chamberlain was fully expected to get a majority. The result of the vote was awaited with intense interest not only in Britain, but in many other countries. Mr Lloyd George said nothing would contribute more to victory in this war than that Mr Chamberlain should sacrifice the seals of office. Mr A. Duff Cooper said he would feel obliged to vote against the Government.
