TURF NEWS AND NOTES
CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE Training Operations at Opaki GAY CHOU GOES WELL OVER HURDLES (BY “THE GRAFTER.”.) Though he will doubtless be raced over the.flat in his immediate engagements it is quite on the cards that Gay Chou will be put over the sticks later in the winter. The Gay Lothario—Chouette gelding has been tried over the hurdles at Opaki during the past week 'and has shaped brilliantly. In view of the excellent manner in which he has been doing the hurdle tasks allotted him it would appear as if it would be a profitable move on the part of his ownertrainer, 8, Burgess, to run him in hurdle events. Gay Chou has considerable pace on the flat and as he takes the»sticks in sure style he should prove a good “two class” horse. Master Solway is showing good form in his training at Opaki, and should be fit for his immediate engagements. The Black Ronald gelding is credited with two or three very smart track gallops recently. Some satisfactory track work has been put in recently at Opaki by Valiant Lady and trainer A. Jenkins has the Lackham filly in good heart. She should be in the money before long. Outside of these horses very little active work is being carried out on the course at Opaki.
