Extra Day Applied For. The Taranaki Jockey Club has applied to the Racing Conference for an extra day’s racing on June 29. There is a large number of horses in training in Taranaki, and the club considers that a day’s racing in June would bo a boon to owners and trainers in the province, it is realised that probably only district horses would be attracted, but even so the club's purpose would be served. Great Swoop Sold.
The three-year-old Magnus colt Groat Swoop has been sold by the estate of Sir Charles Clifford to a patron of J. McLean’s stable at Riccarton. Change In Order Of Events. A change has been made in the order of events at the Poverty Bay meeting. The maiden race is now the fifth, and the hack flat the second race. An Improving Filly. Sweet Mystery was responsible for a solid effort in running third in the Seadown Hack Handicap at Amberley on Saturday. She appeared to be weakening out of the final tussle a few chains from the post, but made a renewed effort in the last few strides, and was only deprived of second money on the line by Scarteen. Sweet Mystery was bred by Mr G. Kain, and is being raced by Mr C. Holdsworth, for whom she is trained by F. D. Jones. She is a three-year-old by Lord Warden from Satisfy, a McLean Stakes winner, and dam also of a useful galloper in Stolen March. Sweet Mystery will be racing over six furlongs at Ashburton next Saturday, and will no doubt attract the attention of investors more than was the case on Saturday. False Witness. Trainer Johanson is puling some good work into False Witness who is credited with being a difficult proposition to handle. Counter In Easy Work. Counter has returned from his northern trip and is being given easy work at Opaki by his trainer A. Jenkins. Tried Over Hurdles. Halfcaste has been recently tried over hurdles at Opaki and the Black Ronald gelding has gone quite well. B. Burgess had him jumping in company with Gay Chou.
