TABLE TENNIS
PLAYERS SHOWING PROMISE. ("Times-Age” Special.) The members of the newly formed Table Tehnis Club met for play on Monday night, but owing to the inclement weather, the attendance was not as good as on the opening night. There were two tables in use and many interesting and closely contested games were played. Some of the players are showing considerable promise, and with consistent practice should soon) become first class players. LOYAL UNITY LODGE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of Loyal Unity Lodge was held on Monday night last, N.G. Bro F. Casidy presiding over a fair attendance. Accounts and sick pay amounting to £l7 were passed for payment. FIRE BRIGADE PRESENTATION OF CUPS. The monthly meeting of the Featherston Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Monday night. Superintendent T. Tidswell presiding over a good attendance. Leave of absence was granted one member. Invitations were received to attend the annual re-unions of the Silverstream and Carterton fire brigades. The Secretary’s action in purchasing poppies to the value of 10s for a wreath was endorsed. Mrs W. J. Boston was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for having made the Anzac Day wreath. Votes of thanks were also accorded Mr W. J. McKain for a donation of 15s and to Fireman V. Pulford for a donation of coconut matting. Dputy Boston gave an interesting report on the U.D.F.B.A. conference which was held at Upper Hutt. The Superintendent thanked Deputy Boston for his comprehensive report, and congratulated him upon again being elected a vice-president of the association. At the conclusion of the general business the Superintendent presented the cups won at the recent local demonstration as follows:—Fireman R. Skipage (one man coupling event); Deputy Boston and Fireman Anderson (two men wet event). MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB LAST NIGHT’S SCORES. The following are the best scores registered in the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club’s Austin Cup competition which were fired on the range last night: W. Nix 100, A. Cook 100, E. McKenzie 99, A. Viles 99, L. Feast 99, B. Johnston 99, A. Hodder 99, K. McKenzie 96, Miss P. Nix 98, R. Hudson 98, D. Eurt 98, J. S. Viles 97, C. Nix 96, J. Buck 97, B. Willials 96, R. Lett 97, Mrs T. Saunders 95, H. McNamara 93, Mrs M. Wilson 93, M. McKenzie 94, S. Buck 92, A. Hubib 90, Mis E. Chalmers 90. Messrs W. Nix and A. Cook are to ze congratulated upon scoring possibles so early in the season. Personal Items. Recent visitors to Wellington were Mrs P. Sullivan and Miss M. Sullivan, of Kahutara Road. Mr and Mrs Bellamore, Messrs W. Roscoe, J. Condon and A. and S. Julius, of Wellington, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs Juno, of Pihautea, have returned home. Miss Betty Rowles is a Featherston visitor to Eltham. Miss Joyce Hatton, who is on the teaching staff of the Wellington South School, is spending her vacation with her mother, Mrs J. Hatton, of Waite Street.
