FIGHTING SERVICES
RECENT WAIRARAPA APPEAL CAMPAIGN IN MASTERTON AREA. MANY HELPERS THANKED. A meeting of the Citizens’ Committee of the Fighting Services Welfare Appeal was held at the Y.M.C.A. last night, to receive a report on the results of the campaign conducted some weeks ago. In the absence of the chairman. Mr F. C. Daniell, through sickness. Mr C. Kyngdon was voted to the chair. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Kilgour and Pither, Major Ericson. Messrs J. H. Handyside. A. D. Low. G. Masters, T. Jordan. H. H. Daniell and E. M. Hodder. The report of the honorary auditors, Messrs A. D. Low and C. Kyngdon, showed the total of the main appeal for the areas of Masterton Borough and Masterton County and the counties of Mauriceville and Castlepoint, to be £2,012 15s. The supplementary account, consisting of amounts received since the closing of the main appeal. increased this total by £133 0s 4d. making a grand total to date, from these areas, of £2.145 15s 4d. The total to date, for the whole of the Wairarapa district was given as £4,347 15s lid. On behalf of the committee, the chairman expressed thanks to the following persons for assistance rendered during the campaign:—-The chairman of the Citizens’ Committee; over 20 members of various committees; over 100 team captains and collectors in the borough; over 30 collectors in rhe county area; 6 men who prepared and controlled the office records and organisation; 40 typists and others, who assisted in the preparation of the indexed roll; the New Zealand Educational Institute, which undertook the organisation of school efforts, sale of postcards, publicity, etc; 12 young ladies, who sold postcards at theatres; theatre, managers for permission to sell postcards and for advertising; the Associated Auctioneers, who arranged the sale of the Achilles picture; the numerous business houses that displayed posters, etc; the Masterton Y.M.C.A., whose buildings, etc, were at the disposal of the campaign committee; the honorary auditors; the ladies who provided refreshments, etc,, during the week of the campaign, and' many others, who, by advice and practical assistance helped in the promotion and carrying through of the campaign.
It was resolved that the committee, instead of disbanding, go into recess in case its services should again be required in a similar capacity.
