WELFARE LEAGUE
ANNUAL MEETING HELD IN MASTERTON. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The twelfth annual meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held yesterday afternoon at the Midland Hotel. Masterton. Those present were: Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames Kilgour. Charleson. Munn, Free. Glen, Fletcher, W. Andrew, Coleman, Reynolds, J. Andrew, Harrison,
McCracken, Tolhurst, Drummond, Henderson. Pither, Jordan, Garland, Misses, Bellis, Wilson, Vallance and B. Vallance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. W. McKenzie. Whyborn. Hunter, caselberg, I C. H. Vallance, Watson and Scharnweber, Misses Guild. Baird and Boddington. Miss Kummer welcomed new members to the League. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as, follows: —President. Miss Kummer (reelected); vice-presidents, Mesdames Drummond. Fletcher, Jordan, Pither and Tolhurst; hon. secretary, Mrs Glen; hon. treasurer, Mrs Charleson; hon. auditor, Mr N. James; convenors of committees, public hospital, Miss Beiliss assisted by Mesdames Page, Pavitt. Drummond and Miss Guild; Buchanan Home, Mrs Hunter; lighthouses, Mrs Kilgour; Blind Institute, Mrs Pither; Social Welfare. Mrs A. W. McKenzie, Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs Scharnweber for floral work carried |
out during the year, to Mr N. H. James as non. auditor, to the management of the Midland Hotel, to the Press for its courtesy in publishing reports and appeals, and all friends and societies for the help given during the year. Officeholders were thanked for their work during the year. The monthly meeting was then held. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to the Misses Cameron in their recent bereavement. Mrs Harrison and Mrs Reynolds were appointed League delegates to the Red Cross Society. A report was submitted by Mrs Tolhurst on two visits paid during April to the hospital and the distribution of reading matter, cakes, etc. Visitors for the coming month will include Mesdames Drummond. Fletcher and Miss Kummer. A visit to Buchanan Home is to be made on May 18. The president (Miss Kummer) reported that on Anzac Day she had laid a wreath on the Soldiers' Memorial. At the conclusion of the meeting the executive officers entertained the members to afternoon tea.
