COLLEGE FAREWELL
TO FORMER STAFF MEMBERS. MAJOR WILLIAMS AND LIEUT. HOLLOW. Major C. J. Williams and Lieutenant H. H. Hollow, former members of the Wairarapa College staff, who are now in camp, were accorded a farewell at the college yesterday afternoon by the staff and pupils. Among those presen. were Messrs. L. Daniell (a member of the board), and H. M. Boddington (secretary). Mr G. G. Hancox (principal) referred in eulogistic terms to the association of their guests with the college and their excellent work in connection with the library and the wood-working department respectively. Both came from the technical school staff to join the college staff. Mr. L. Daniell referred to the high sense of duty which prompted their guests to join the forces. A message was received from Mr. W. R. Nicol in which the hope was expressed for the safe return of Major Williams and Lieutenant Hollow, and for their association again with the staff of the college. The head prefect. Bruce' Cunningham. on behalf of the school pupils, presented each of the guests with a pipe and tobacco .pouch. Subsequently the staff of the college entertained Major Williams and Lieutenant Hollow at afternoon tea, among those present being Mesdames Williams and Hollow, and wives of members of the staff.
Speeches were made by Messrs Hancox and A. J. Drew, the latter presenting Major Williams and Lieutenant Hollow with a fountain pen each.
Recently the prefects presented Mr. Rex Daniell with a travelling rug. Prior to entering the air pilots’ training camp Mr. Daniell was head prefect at the college.
