AGRICULTURAL CLUBS
BOYS & GIRLS’ ACTIVITIES ARRANGEMENTS FOR ENSUING YEAR. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Boys and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs’ Association was held at Greytown on Monday evening. There were present: Messrs L. Keats (president), M.. Parker, G. T. Cole, A. W. George, R. Burch (Martinborough), C. Buck, H. L. Lumsden (Featherston), H. J. McKenzie, E. Rayner (Carterton), H. G. Carter, S. C. Shedden (Greytown), A. J. Clark (Masterton), J. Fisher (Wairarapa P. and A. Society). A. Donald (Wellington Education Board), and F. C. Brockett (Agriculture Instructor). The Education Board wrote acknowledging the work done by the various; groups in the Wairarapa Boys and Girls’ Agriculture Clubs’ Association. A copy of this letter is to be forwarded to each group. The annual report stated that the activities of the association had increased and that the entries constituted a record. The year commenced with a credit balance of £8 7s 8d and closed with a balance of £l4 2s Bd. Some groups still have to receive their grants. The secretary, Mr J. E. Feast, had resigned owing to his having entered the university, and Mr G. S. Maloney had acted as secretary. Thanks were expressed to the judges for their excellent work and also tc Messrs H. W. Hesse, A. Donald, G. H. Perry and Co., and the Wellington Education Board. The election of officers resulted as follow:—Patron, Mr G. H. Perry (reelected); president, Mr L. Keats (reelected for the third year); vice-presi-dents, Messrs M. Parker and G. T. Cole; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. Rayner; auditor, Mr G. S. Maloney.
The Carterton delegates moved a motion that the groups receive no grants next year. They considered’ that the headquarters of the association needed more money and that each group should finance itself. The motion was opposed by several delegates and finally it was decided that the grants to groups be held over till the next annual meeting. It was decided to award round seals to calves and lambs placed in the group judging. The group secretaries are to be asked to keep a record of diplomas issued each year.
The Carterton delegates moved that the keeping of records be discontinued. They pointed out that their experience was that the records wore of no value and in many cases were not the work of the child. Mr A. Donald stated that he felt the Education Board would not agree with this. The motion was lost.
In order to simplify the judging of the grade calves it was decided that they bo devided in three groups, four calves to bo picked from each group for the final.
The champion of champions in the calf competition is to be awarded a miniature cup.
For the root crop competitions, Oxheart Guerande carrots and prize-win-ner Yellow Globe mangolds were selected. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr G. Maloney for his services to the association in past years.
