Y.M.C.A. PRESIDENT

RESIGNATION OF MR W. A. CLARKE. At the annual meeting of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. last night the resignation of the president. Mr W. A. Clarke, owing to ill-health, was accepted with regret. The general secretary. Mr D. McKee Wright, in expressing regret at Mr Clarke's resignation thanked him for his assistance and interest in the movement. “It has come as a great shock to me to find that Mr Clarke has resigned from the board,” stated Mr E. M. Hodder. “During my association with Mr Clarke I have always found him extremely modest as to his own capabilities and ability for the job. He has carried out his job with great credit to himself and general satisfaction,” added Mr Hodder. “He was actuated by high ideals and by a desire to do what was right.” On the motion of Mr Hodder. it was decided to record in the minutes of the association appreciation of the long period of service rendered by Mr Clarke. In seconding the motion, which was carried by acclamation. Mr E. J. Coleman paid a tribute to Mr Clarke's work for the Y.M.C.A., adding that although Mr Clarke had resigned he knew that he would continue to take an active interest in the association.

In reply Mr Clarke referred to his interest in the Y.M.C.A. ever since his experience of the work of the Y.M.C.A. at Gallipoli.
