CURRENT TOPICS FROM STABLE AND COURSE May Coine Into Its Own Again TRAINING PROSPECTS AT OPAKI (BY “THE GRAFTER.’J Easy- work is the order of the day at the Opaki racecourse at present, most of the horses who are out seriously working being kept in condition for more serious training iater on. It is quite on the cards that, a good representation from Masterton will be seen out at the Otaki and Manawatu meetings, though much, of course, will depend on circumstances and whether the likely horses are in satisfactory condition. It is stated that one or two of the Opakitrained horses may be given tuition over the sticks, and it is stated that one at least should be able to pay his way at the jumping game. It is stated that Opaki may become the home shortly of a strong team of two-year-olds from another district, and that with a contingent of more experienced horses the numerical strength at Opaki may in the near future be increased by about thirty. If such comes to pass Opaki will be on a fair way to becoming the important training centre it was in the Kemball and pre-Kemball days, when Jamieson and McGrath (now noted Australian trainers) had big strings of horses at Opaki. ■
