FARMERS’ UNION ANNUAL MEETING OF LOCAL BRANCH. (“Times-Age" .Special.) The annual meeting of the Featherston branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last night, the chairman, Mr H. J. Hutchings, presiding over a fair attendance. Mr W. J. Thomas was also present and explained the Union’s activities during the year and outlined the financial position of the local province. The finances, he said, had improved considerably during the last twelve months. Officers were elected as follow: — Chairman. Mr H. J. Hutchings; vicechairman, Mr E. E. O'Neale; committee, Messrs H. J. Hutchings, C. J. Nix, W. Hutchings, R. W. Fuge and A. J. Rendle; delegates to Provincial Executive, Messrs H. J. Hutchings. C. J. Nix and A. J. Rendle; delegates to Interprovincial Conference, Messrs E. E. O'Neale, H. J. Hutchings and W. Hutchings. The meeting endorsed a Tinui remit favouring conscription for military service. as in the- last war, and a Carterton remit urging the extension of Social Security benefits in cases of sickness without the necessity of a means test. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY LICENCE HOLDERS MEET. Fifteen licence, holders attended the annual meeting of the South Wairarapa sub-branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. Dr. Sharp was in the chair. A keen discussion concerning licence holders' interests resulted in several recommendations being passed on to the incoming committee. The election of officers resulted as fellows: Committee, Messrs. A. McLeod, J. Bouzaid, H. Farley, N. C. C. Shepherd. R. Williams, A. Playle. L. Rayner, S. Nichols, C. Wendon, H. Harland, P. O’Brien, Dr. Sharp; chairman, Mr. N. C. C. Shepherd; secretary, Mr. H. C. Playle: delegate. Dr. Sharp. Personal. Mrs. F. C. Benton and Miss Joyce Graham, both of whom underwent operations recently in the Kelvin Hospital, are reported to be making good progress toward recovery and will shortly be well, enough to return to of the year’s work ahead, comprised their respective homes. School Representation. At the meeting of householders on Monday night, Mr A. Robbins moved and Mr Jansen seconded that the incoming committee approach the Education Board in an effort to arrange for the definite representation on the school committees of school districts, those schools which have been closed through consolidation.
