LANSDOWNE SCHOOL
NEW BUILDING ALREADY TOO SMALL INCREASE IN ROLL NUMBER. CHAIRMAN'S BIENNIAL REPORT. The opening of the new school buildings at Lansdowne marked an epoch in the progress of this district, states the biennial report of the chairman of the Lansdowne School Committee, Mr H. E. Pither, to be presented at the annual meeting of householders tonight. The ’ inauguration ceremony was a great success and was attended by a very large number of parents. past- pupils and headmasters of Lansdowne together with the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, the member for Masterton. Mr J. Robertson, and members of the Education Board to whom the committee owe a debt of gratitude for their support and interest in the school. The new buildings are a wonderful advance in school design and their erection has been fully warranted by the considerable increase in the school roll that has taken place, the roll being now nearly 300. Unfortunately the school is already too small for our requirements, two classes being in one room which is definitely, not in the interests of the pupils. Your committee has strongly recommended to the Education Board the addition of an extra room which was incorporated in the original plans, and which is warranted by the large increase in scholars in our district. The incorporation of Wangaehu was effected some time ago. and is working very satisfactorily. The establishment of the Hospital class in connection with our school is of very definite value to the community and is being very ably carried on by our staff. “The establishment of the Parents' Association has proved of great help to the committee their contributions to the school funds have been much appreciated, and we extend to them our good wishes. Our first picnic for many years was recently held and was a great success in every respect. being very large attended. The school is very fortunate in having such an able headmaster in Mr Jones, and he and his staff are carrying on the splendid traditions of our school. I extend to the secretary, treasurer, and members of the committee my sincere thanks for their loyal and helpful work during the past few years."
