GOLF CLUB four-ball bogey match. < ("Times-Age" Special.) ’ A four-ball bogey match played on the Carterton Golf Club links on Saturday, in good weather conditions, and on a splendid course, resulted as under: —Dwane and Harrington. 5 up; 't averner and Barr. 4 up; Moroney and G. T. Beaven, 3 up; Clark and Gustofson, 3 up; Steel and Smith. 1 up; ' George and Moody. 1 down. In a game for Messrs. Hill & Hughes' buttons. Smith and Whitburn (holders) defeated Forbes and Barrett, 4 and 3. Collections made at the Carterton Golf Club links on Saturday for patliotic purposes totalled £4 10s. CARTERTON SCHOOL MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS.

The annual meeting of householders in connection with the Carterton School will take place tonight at the School building, Holloway Street, at 7.30 o’clock. Eleven nominations have been received for the nine seats. The hope is expressed that there will be a large attendance at the meeting. FOOTBALL SEASON FIXTURES TO BE DRAWN UP THIS WEEK. The Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union will meet on Wednesday evening for the purpose of arranging fixtures for the annual seven-a-side competitions (senior and junior) on Saturday next. The season's championship fixtures will also be drawn, and the appointment of various committees made. The championship matches will commence on Saturday, May 4.

OBITUARY MR. HERBERT THOMPSON. The death occurred at Masterton Hospital on Saturday evening of Mr. Herbert Thompson, of High Street, Carterton. The late Mr. Thompson, who had lived in Carterton for many years, was well known and respected by all with whom he came in contact. Recently he was stricken with a serious illness from which he never recovered. He was 54 years of age and. was a member of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A.. having been on active service during the Great War as a member of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. The late Mr. Thompson leaves a widow, two daughters and two sons. The funeral, which took place this afternoon, was attended by a large number of mourners. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by relatives and friends. The pall-bearers were- Messrs. A. T. Murray, G. Johnston, C. E. Gray. C. Manley, J. Oberg and W. Moroney. The Rev. W. F. Stent. Vicar of St. Mark's Anglican Church, conducted the burial service at the graveside.

Funeral of Mrs. A. M. Broadbent. The funeral of the late Mrs. A. M. Broadbent took place on Saturday afternoon, after a service held in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Carterton. The cortege comprised a large number of relatives and friends. At the Clareville Cemetery the service was conducted by the Rev. W. J. Couling. There were many beautiful wreaths testifying to the esteem in which the late Mrs Broadbent was held. The pallbearers were: Messrs. A. C. Gawith (Longbush), Ken Groves (Longbush), W. C. Deller, Howard E. Jackson. George Brown and C. Moore. Hockey and Football. Good practice was indulged in on Saturday by members of the local hockey and football clubs in view of forthcoming competitions. Painful Accident. While travelling from Wellington to Carterton in his motor car on Saturday. Mr. Frank S. Wilkins met with a painful accident. When crossing the Rimutaka hill the door of the car which had not been closed properly swung open and with the force of wind blowing the door hinge was strained. Mr. Wilkins. using a spanner, tried to get the. door to dose and in doing so it slipped from his grip with the result that the forefinger of his left hand was severely cut. On arrival at Carterton he consulted Dr. W. J. C. Wells, who inserted a few stitches into the finger. Harvest Thanksgiving. The was a large attendance at the Gladstone Pesbyterian Church yesterday afternoon, the occasion being the annual harvest thanksgiving service. The flowers and produce are to be forwarded to orphanges. Personal Items. Mrs. A. C. Feast, of Rhodes Street. Carterton, who had been in Gore since the death of her husband, returned to Carterton yesterday. Mr J. Hemi left Carterton this morning for Auckland. He will play for his eld League Club on Saturday next.
