The women's sub-committee oi the Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee was formed at a special meeting held last night in the Lecture Room. Municipal Building, when the various representatives of the women's organisations in Masterton met at the invitation of Miss Thomson. Recreation Officer for the Wellington Area. Full representation of both sports and cultural activities is hoped for to further the development of leisure time activities for women.

It was decided that the combined recreational leader's course and keep fit class should commence next Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in the Municipal Hall. These classes are not. only for young girls, but are planned to meet, the requirements of the various women's organisations in the town. Activities will be suited to the different ( age groups according to their ability, and a special programme planned to include their particular interests. All women interested are invited to attend the first keep fit night, soft pliableshoes or gym shoes and loose fitting clothing or sports outfit are suggested for those who intend to join in the class. Campbell ißed Cross) and the Misses Berrill and Knowles (Girls' Club) were elected to assist Miss Wolters of the local Recreation Committee, and Miss Thomson. Recreation Officer for Wellington district, to further the work of the branch in Carterton. Miss Thomson explained the immediate plan of forming a women’s keep fit group combined with a Recreation Leaders' Training Coutse, both of which ideas should appeal strongly to the women of Carterton. Never have women been as interested in ways and means of keeping fit. as they are now. so this opportunity is ■very timely. Those present enjoyed taking the part of the class in a lecture demonstration of the type of work to be taught and were initiated into the secrets of good posture. It was decided to have a regular class each Wednesday afternoon through the winter season. A piamst has already been obtained and inquiries about a suitable hall are being made. Miss Berrill and other members of the committee will be pleased to give any further information to those : interested in recreation.
