ST. MATTHEW’S CHURCH

MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. PROGRESS WELL MAINTAINED. “The church exists to preserve and strengthen those spiritual forces which make possible all that is best in life, forces which are threatened today,” said the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich at the & annual general meeting of parishion- ” ers held in the Parish Hall last night. Last year had seen St. Matthew’s make splendid progress, congregations had grown, a splendid band of workers had carried on their work for the church, and all departments of the church's activities had advanced. The People's Churchwarden, Mr J. Ninnes, said that the position of the parish was a very happy one. The choir had rendered great service. All the parish organisations had helped the

church. In spite of extra expenditure all calls had been met. The hon. treasurer, Mr H. A. R. Dunderdale, reviewed the financial position which was excellent. The position of the parish as free of debt had been maintained and such was the spirit of happy fellowship in service in the parish that the progress already made was just, the beginning of yet greater things in the future. Officers were elected as follows:— Churchwardens. Messrs R. E. Maunsell and J. Ninnes; vestry, Messrs E. J. Coleman, E. Hale, W. L. Hunter, G. Hyde. A. O. Jones, C. R. Mabson, T. C. H. Miller, P. G. Ramsay, R. G. Russell and W. E. Vowell; hon. auditors, Messrs G. W. Sellar and N, H. James. Votes of thanks were passed to all church workers and the serving of supper by wives of the vestry brought a very hapoy and enthusiastic meeting to a close.
