MUNICIPAL BAND ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT. The annual meeting of the Carterton Municipal Silver Band was held in the Band Room last night. There was a large attendance, and Mr W. Howard Booth (president) occupied the chair. Prior to the commencement of business, the chairman referred to the death of the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage and as a mark of respect to his memcry all present stood in silence for a few moments. The annual report and balance sheet were submitted by the secretary, and showed that the funds of the band were in a very healthy condition. There would be carried forward a sum of £Bl 14s 9d. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, paid a tribute to the secretary and management committee of the band for the excellent manner in which the band had been managed. He said that the Carterton band had been a very 1 useful and live institution in the borough of Carterton. Of course, like other institutions, it had its ups and downs and in recent years it had bn more than one occasion successfully competed al band contests. The problem of a country band was how best to keep its active membership owing to the fact of many bandsmen left the district for other fields of occupation. This factor was the reason why the band had for some time past been labouring under a certain amount of disability. He was pleased however, to say that today under the leadership of Mr Tom Udy as conductor the Carterton band was again coming back to its old status. The following officers were elected; —Patron, Mr W. B. Allen; president, Mr W.,Howard Booth; vice-presidents, Messrs D. L. Taverner, R. G. K'emble, E. Roberts. M.P., Geo. A. Vincent, F. C. Yule. W.
