OIL & COAL

EXPORTS FROM RUMANIA HALTED GERMAN SUPPLIES CUT OFF. WHEAT CONTRACTS CANCELLED. By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyright. BUCHAREST. April 15. A decree prohibiting all exports of petroleum, coal and wood will have the effect of cutting off Germany’s main source of supplies from the south-east. The Government Economic Council has annulled all wheat- contracts until further notice owing to the prospective failure of the crop. Foreign deliveries of petroleum, coal and wood have been halted until adequate reserves are assured for thearmy and railways. The suspension of exports also applies to practically all metals, some hides, and oil-bearing seeds and plants. DANUBE CONTROL OPPOSITION TO GERMAN DEMANDS. ARRESTS OF NAZI SUSPECTS IN YUGOSLAVIA. LONDON. April 15. Rumanian reports indicate that the Danubian States will now forestall the reported German demand that they should police the Danube. Each- of the States will take some measure in policing the river within its own territory. This shows that Rumania and Yugoslavia are not ready to give up their right to control the course of the river in their own territory. The Yugoslav Government has reacted vigorously to the increasing activity of Nazi agents. In Belgrade, a considerable number of arrests were carried out today of people suspected of being connected with the Gestapo, and this is believed to be the beginning of a campaign to stop German espionage. The British Ministers in the Balkans have concluded their conference in London which started nearly a fortnight ago. It is believed that during their visit they reviewed Balkan affairs from every.aspect—political, economic, and cultural, and the exchange of views will help to consolidate British policy in that part of Europe.
