RUGBY FOOTBALL ANNUAL MEETING OF BUSH UNION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Bush Rugby Union was held in Pahiatua on Saturday night, when the president (Mr. R. J. Smith) presided over a large attendance of delegates. The election of officers resulted:— Patron. Mr. D. Kelly; president, Mr. R J. Smith; vice-presidents, Mr L. G. Harvey (north), Mr. H. Wolland (south). Mr. P. Donovan (Puketoi SubUnion); management committee. Messrs S. Oliver, H. Cooper. C. Burgess. - Smith. J. P. Peterson, C. Morgan. M. Reichenbach; treasurer. Mr. C. C. Smyth; secretary, Mr. S. G. H. Hogg: delegate to New Zealand Rugby Union Mr. R. J. Smith. It was decided that nominations for teams close on April 22. and that the season open on May 4. The Manawatu Rugby Union granted the Woodville Club its clearance to play in the Bush Union. Personal Items. Mr. and Mrs. H. Worthington and family are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. Preston, Parkville. Mr. T. Metcalfe. Wanganui, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Metcalfe. Church Street. Mr. F. Wise. Wellington, is visiting Eketahuna and is a guest at Liverpool House. ANGLICAN CHURCH HARVEST FESTIVAL. The local Anglican Church held its annual harvest festival yesterday. The Rev. Mr. Bullock, of Pahiatua. conducted the morning service and the Rev. L. Ives (Eketahuna) officiated in the evening. The church was appropriately decorated for the occasion. ladieF auxiliary ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Eketahuna Anglican Church was held in the Schoolroom, there being present Mesdames L. Ives (chair), E. Coster, H. Price. B. Bowering. A. H. Gray, E. M. Simmers, E. Albrechtsen, Gaskin, M. R. Herbert. H. Higginson. Anderson, J. Tolley, Misses M. and A. Anderson and K. Herbert. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. W. Dawson. The Vicar, the Rev. L. Ives, was also present and expressed keen appreciation of the work accomplished by the ladies during the year. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. Ives; vicepresidents, Mesdames E. Coster, E. M. Simmers and Miss A. Anderson; secretary, Mrs. A. S. Carter (Mrs. Tolley kindly consented to carry out the duties of secretary during Mrs. Carter’s absence through illness); treasurer. Mrs Simmers; committee, Mesdames Higginson, Herbert. Price, Gray and Albrechtsen; auditor, Mr. A. H. Gray. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. O. Walton for his services as auditor. Mrs. Gray was also thanked for her work as treasurer last year. The meeting expressed its deep sympathy for Mrs. A. S. Carter in her illness and wished her a speedy recovery. It was stated that during the year the auxiliary was very fortunate in having a beautiful carpet presented to the Church by the Misses Anderson, which has added greatly to the appearance and dignity of the building. GOLF SEASON OFFICIAL OPENING YESTERDAY. Eketahuna golfers were present in large numbers at the official opening of the season yesterday. The afternoon was fine and the course and greens in excellent order. Mr. R. Dickson, president, in a brief speech, welcomed new members and the visitors, and declared the links open for the 1940 season. A Canadian fousome round was played, the winners being Mrs. J. R. Berney and Mr. Barrie Anderson. Putting competitions for both ladies and men were held and resulted in Mrs P. S. Page winning the ladies' section and Mr. M. Wilson the men's. Next Saturday the club prpposes to hold a medal competition and the proceeds from the entry fees will go to the Fighting Services Fund. Successful Shop Day. A very successful shop day was held by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of St. Cuthbert's Church. The sheep judging competition was won by Mrs. M. Herbert (correct weight 1161 b.) and Mr. A. Perry was the nearest of the male entrants. The cake competition was won by Mrs. McLaughlin.
